We live in a nautical town, so the image of a Compass Rose shows up often in my sketches. This page began with the pasting of a sea chart into the book (we used to be able to buy old ones for $1–soon to be a thing of the past). I happened to be studying a medieval map at the time, and so got busy copying ships and lettering and sea monsters. The only ‘original’ (not copied) drawing in there is – guess who? – charting her own course.
Oh, once the page is ‘prepared’ (i.e. not blank) the drawings come willy-nilly. Here you see a coffee break in town, and the view from our houseboat’s deck to the gillnet boats next door. A nautical fishing town.
